A small knitted hat for children in size 4 – 8 years

Material

• 1 skein of Merino Singles Worsted by Riverside Studio (100% Merino, 115g/201m)
• 1 circular needle 3.5 mm in 40 cm circumference
• 1 set of 3.5 mm double-pointed needles
• 1 yarn needle
• 1 marker ring
• 1 recycled fur pompom

Sample

23 sts x 30 rows for 10 cm by 10 cm with 3.5 mm needles in circular stocking stitch. Important: check the sample and adapt the needle number if necessary.

Realization

Using 3.5 mm circular needles, cast on 88 stitches. Place a marker ring and join in a circle, taking care not to twist the stitches.

Knit 8 cm in 2/2 rib then continue in stocking stitch for a total height of 18 cm (so 10 cm in stocking stitch).

Then begin the decreases for the top of the hat (change to double pointed needles when the knitting becomes too tight).

Round 1: *9 stitches 2 together * repeat from * to * 8 times. Knit one row.

Round 3: *8 stitches 2 together * repeat from * to * 8 times. Knit one row.

Round 5: *7 stitches 2 together* repeat from * to * 8 times. Knit one row.

Round 7: *6 stitches 2 together * repeat from * to * 8 times. Knit one row.

Round 9: *5 stitches 2 together * repeat from * to * 8 times. Knit one row.

Round 11: *4 stitches 2 together * repeat from * to * 8 times.

Round 12: *3 stitches 2 together * repeat from * to * 8 times.

Round 13: *2 stitches 2 together * repeat from * to * 8 times.

Round 14: *1 stitch 2 together * repeat from * to * 8 times.

Round 15: Knit all stitches 2 by 2 = 8 stitches.

Cut the thread about ten centimeters from the knitting and pass it through the remaining stitches.

Tuck in all the wires. Place the pompom at the top of the hat.
